Winter Marshall-Allen She/Her/Hers/Ella

Owner and cofounder Winter Marshall-Allen with an Alaskan floral background.

My Story:

My name is Winter J Marshall-Allen. I am a 18 year public educator specializing in the secondary setting in the áreas of Special Education and behavior intervention. I am currently teaching at Homer High School. I have previously worked in the Oklahoma public schools before moving to Alaska. Upon arriving in Alaska I taught in the village communities of Ambler and Koztebue before I relocated to the road system here in Homer after the state budget cuts in 2016. I am humbled to be the 2019 National Education Association Social Justice Activist of the Year. I regularly advocate for local, state and federal policy regarding IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) and cultural relevance and competency within policy and practice. I am deeply invested in Local and State Union activities, as a Board Member and organizer. I was the South Peninsula coordinator and helped to organize staff for preemptive measures against the KPBSD strike in 2019 and I am currently Organizing the KPEA Human and Civil Rights Committee. I am a co-author published in 2020 in the book Flip the System US: How Teachers can Transform Education and Save Democracy edited by Michael Soskil. I was recently recognized in 2021-2022 class of the Marquis Who's Who in America for my social contributions to society as a whole. I am completing my Masters Degree in Applied Behavior Analytic studies at the Florida Institution of Technology. I will complete this degree in August 2022 and will then sit for the Behavioral Analytics certification exam. I am currently a registered behavior technician and hold two teaching licenses with multiple endorsements in both the state of Alaska and the state of Oklahoma.

My Mission- H.O.M.E.R. Educational, Wellness & Advocacy aims to provide a platform to amplify and further advocacy work already being done in Homer, to support equitable practices, to increase access through education and applied behavioral analytic practices and supports.
